Pall Cartridge Filter for Industrial Liquid Pretreatment & Membrane Protection

Product Description

Pall cartridge filter is a full‑range industrial filter consumable portfolio developed by Pall Corporation, covering depth filter cartridges, pleated micro‑filtration cartridges and large‑diameter high‑flow Ultipleat series filter elements for diversified industrial filtration scenarios. Representative product lines contain Ultipleat High‑Flow, Profile II, HDC II and Poly‑Fine II series, covering nominal precision ranging from 0.2 μm up to 150 μm, with available lengths of 20‑inch, 40‑inch, 60‑inch and 80‑inch to satisfy different flow‑rate requirements

The well‑known Pall Ultipleat high‑flow cartridge adopts 6‑inch large‑diameter core‑free crescent‑shaped pleated structure, with inside‑out flow direction, single‑cartridge maximum flow capacity up to 1900 LPM (500 gpm). Compared with traditional 2.5‑inch small‑size filter cartridges, it can sharply cut required cartridge quantity and shrink filter housing dimension, greatly reducing capital investment for large‑flow projects. Most models adopt full polypropylene construction: gradient multi‑layer filter media, glass‑fiber‑reinforced polypropylene end caps, thermal‑fusion bonding without adhesive glue, eliminating fiber shedding and secondary fluid contamination risks. Multiple sealing material options including Buna‑N nitrile, silicone, EPDM and FKM are available to match different chemical fluids.

Different series target differentiated working‑condition demands: Profile II depth‑type cartridges apply graded‑diameter‑fiber depth‑filtration technology for high‑solids‑loading wastewater pretreatment; Poly‑Fine II pleated cartridges serve for high‑purity process‑liquid filtration in electronics and food‑beverage industries. Maximum continuous operating temperature for polypropylene‑based cartridges reaches 71‑82°C, featuring outstanding chemical compatibility for neutral water, weak acid and weak‑alkali industrial fluids. Both original OEM cartridges and compatible aftermarket replacement elements support new‑built water‑treatment projects and old‑system retrofitting, widely used in power, petrochemical, food‑beverage, microelectronics, seawater desalination and industrial wastewater reuse sectors.

Working Principle

Pall cartridge filter mainly relies on gradient depth‑filtration principle; two mainstream flow directions are outside‑in for conventional small‑size cartridges and inside‑out for Ultipleat core‑free high‑flow cartridges.

For inside‑out Ultipleat high‑flow cartridges:

Driven by system operating pressure, raw water or industrial process liquid enters the inner cavity of filter cartridge, flows outward through multi‑layer gradient‑pore proprietary filter media. Large‑size sediment and coarse flocs are trapped inside the inner coarse‑pore pleated layers; fine suspended solids, colloidal particles and tiny contaminants are intercepted by outer fine‑pore media layers. All pollutants are retained inside the cartridge, avoiding downstream secondary re‑release of captured particles.

For outside‑in depth‑type and ordinary pleated Pall cartridges:

Raw fluid flows toward outer filter‑media surface, coarse impurities are trapped on outer upstream layer, fine particles are captured by inner downstream absolute‑rating media layer, realizing graded interception step‑by‑step.

Unique crescent‑shaped pleat geometry maximizes effective filtration area and dirt‑holding volume, slowing the rising speed of inlet‑outlet differential pressure. After purification, treated liquid flows toward downstream RO, UF and other precision separation equipment. When differential pressure rises to recommended 25‑35 PSID alarm threshold, operators need to replace filter cartridge timely to restore rated flow rate and filtration efficiency of whole pretreatment system.

FAQ

Q1: What main series belong to Pall cartridge filter?

A1: The main series include Ultipleat high‑flow cartridge, Profile II depth‑type cartridge, HDC II and Poly‑Fine II pleated filter cartridges, covering wide precision and dimension ranges for industrial liquid filtration.

Q2: What is the core difference between Ultipleat high‑flow cartridge and ordinary small‑size Pall cartridge?

A2: Ultipleat series adopts 6‑inch core‑free large‑diameter structure with inside‑out flow direction; single‑element flow is far higher than traditional 2.5‑inch cartridges, greatly reducing cartridge quantity and housing size for high‑flow projects.

Q3: When shall Pall cartridge filter be replaced?

A3: Replace filter cartridge when inlet‑outlet differential pressure reaches 25‑35 PSID, or obvious flow‑rate attenuation occurs. Periodic scheduled replacement according to on‑site raw‑water quality is also recommended.

Q4: Can Pall polypropylene cartridge filter be cleaned and reused?

A4: Most poly‑propylene pleated and depth‑type Pall cartridges are disposable consumables. After pores are blocked by colloids and fine particles, cleaning cannot fully restore filtration efficiency; direct replacement is suggested upon pressure‑drop alarm.

Q5: What factors need confirmation before selecting Pall cartridge filter?

A5: Confirm filter housing internal structure and end‑cap type, select micron rating according to raw‑water SDI and downstream equipment requirements, verify working‑fluid temperature, pH value and chemical compatibility with cartridge media and sealing materials.
