Product Introduction
The high flow filter for RO pre-treatment is a high-throughput filtration assembly specially designed to safeguard RO membrane elements. It fits standard water filter housing, and often works in tandem with a self-cleaning filterand industrial water filter as the fine polishing stage after coarse filtration. Our product portfolio also includes high flow filter cartridge options as the core consumable inside this filter unit. Different construction types including single-open high flow pleated cartridges, large diameter radial flow cartridges and custom end-cap variants are available, covering micron grades from 1μm to 50μm. Imported high flow filters from Pall and 3M have long occupied a large share of RO pretreatment projects, yet they come with notable drawbacks: long production lead time, high unit price and limited flexible customization for non-standard RO skids. Our LEFILTER high flow filter for RO pre-treatment adopts gradient-density pleated filter media and optimized fluid channel design, delivering stable absolute filtration accuracy while cutting cartridge replacement frequency and shortening delivery cycle. It is widely deployed in municipal water RO systems, industrial ultrapure water lines, brackish water desalination and wastewater reuse pretreatment.

Working Principle
Most high flow filters for RO pre-treatment adopt radial outward-to-inward flow pattern. Raw water enters the outer cavity of the filter housing, flows through the pleated surface of the high flow filter cartridge, and fine contaminants are trapped on the multi-layer filter media. The large pleated area supports big water throughput with low initial pressure drop, which is critical for RO systems that require steady feed water pressure. When paired with a self-cleaning filter, the self-cleaning unit removes large debris, algae and scale particles in advance, preventing rapid surface clogging of the high flow filter cartridge and avoiding sudden pressure spikes that damage RO membranes. Differential pressure is the core monitoring indicator: once the pressure difference across the filter housing rises to the preset threshold, the internal high flow filter cartridge needs replacement. Unlike small standard 40-inch filter cartridges, one large high flow cartridge can replace dozens of conventional cartridges, greatly simplifying housing structure and maintenance work.
Main Types of High Flow Filter for RO Pre-treatment
1. PP Pleated High Flow Filter
This is the most widely used type for general RO pretreatment. Continuous polypropylene fiber is thermally bonded into gradient pore structure without extra adhesive, featuring low extractable content and good chemical compatibility. Typical micron ratings: 1μm, 5μm, 10μm, 20μm. It is suitable for municipal raw water and cooling water RO feed. Compared with equivalent imported high flow cartridges, our PP pleated version has more uniform fiber distribution, effectively avoiding early flow channeling caused by uneven pore size.
2. Glass Fiber High Flow Filter
Glass fiber media provides higher dirt holding capacity and better tolerance for oily and high-turbidity feed water. It is preferred for wastewater reuse and industrial wastewater RO pretreatment. Its limitation is that it is not suitable for strong alkaline long-term operating conditions.
3. PES High Flow Filter
Polyethersulfone media offers excellent resistance to oxidation and high temperature, stable precision for ultra-pure water RO pretreatment in electronics and pharmaceutical industries. It can withstand periodic hot water sanitization.
4. Activated Carbon Integrated High Flow Filter
Combines pleated supporting structure and sintered carbon media, removing residual chlorine and organic pollutants while intercepting particles. It simplifies the pretreatment layout for small and medium RO skids.

Core Advantages
1. Large filtration area:
Single cartridge supports high flow rate, reducing the total quantity of filter housings required on RO skids.
2. Low initial pressure drop:
Stabilizes RO feed pressure and reduces energy consumption of the high-pressure pump.
3. Strong anti-fouling performance:
Gradient media structure holds more dirt and extends service cycle.
4. Wide compatibility:
Interchangeable with mainstream imported high flow filter cartridges, easy retrofitting for existing RO systems.
5. Simplified maintenance:
Fewer cartridges mean less downtime for replacement and lower labor cost.
6. Fast delivery:
LEFILTER keeps regular sizes in stock, solving the long lead time problem of imported brands.

FAQ
Q1: Why is high flow filter necessary for RO pre-treatment?
A: It intercepts fine particles that would scratch and foul RO membranes. Without this protection, membrane replacement cost will rise sharply.
Q2: What is the typical replacement standard for high flow filter cartridge?
A: Replace the cartridge when differential pressure reaches 0.25–0.3 MPa. Fixed-cycle replacement is also acceptable for stable water quality.
Q3: Can this high flow filter work with a self-cleaning filter?
A: Yes. Self-cleaning filter handles large impurities as primary filtration, and the high flow filter acts as the polishing guard for RO membranes. This two-stage configuration is very popular in large water treatment projects.
Q4: How to choose the micron rating for RO pre-treatment?
A: 5μm is the most common choice for standard RO systems. Choose 1μm for high-purity requirements, and 10–20μm for relatively clean raw water.
Q5: Can your high flow filter cartridge replace Pall and 3M high flow elements directly?
A: Same dimension and micron rating cartridges are interchangeable, with competitive price and much shorter lead time.
