Product Introduction

High Flow Filters refer to large-diameter pleated filter cartridges specially engineered for the pretreatment stage of ultrafiltration water treatment equipment. As the core consumable component of the whole filtration system, these filters are installed upstream of UF membrane modules. Their primary role is to intercept suspended solids, fine silt, pipeline rust, colloids and granular contaminants in raw water before the fluid enters ultrafiltration membranes. By removing particulate pollutants in advance, High Flow Filters effectively reduce membrane fouling risk, extend the service life of high-cost UF membrane elements, and cut down the frequency of costly chemical cleaning cycles for the entire water treatment system.

Compared with traditional small-diameter filter cartridges, High Flow Filters adopt wide-diameter deep pleated construction, which greatly increases the effective filtration surface area of each single filter. To achieve the same total system flow rate, significantly fewer filter elements need to be installed inside filter housings. This structural advantage lowers spare parts inventory pressure, speeds up on-site filter replacement work, and reduces long-term operating expenses for water treatment plant operators and system integrators. When designing complete water treatment skids, engineers can match these High Flow Filters with Parker MFNP050-40N Fulflo Mega-Flow Large Diameter Filter and Replace Pall Ultipleat High-Flow Cartridge for Ultrafiltration to build gradient multi-stage raw water prefiltration.

High Flow Filters use glue-free thermal fusion pleating technology. No adhesive is added inside the filter medium, eliminating the risk of glue dissolution and secondary water contamination caused by long-term high-speed water scouring. End caps and internal and external support cores are integrally molded polypropylene, keeping stable structural integrity under frequent pressure fluctuations and continuous large-volume water flow. The all-polypropylene material offers excellent chemical compatibility and can withstand most weak acid, weak alkali and neutral aqueous solutions. Whether customers need to replace aging filters in existing ultrafiltration production lines or buy spare filter consumables for newly commissioned UF equipment, High Flow Filters can provide stable and repeatable pretreatment filtration performance for a wide range of industrial water treatment projects.

Working Principle

High Flow Filters operate on the surface-depth composite pleated filtration principle. Raw water flows into the filter housing and travels radially inward starting from the outer pleated surface of the filter. Larger solid particles, rust fragments and sediment are trapped on the outer pleated layer. Fine colloids and tiny suspended particles penetrate into layered polypropylene fiber medium and get intercepted within dense fiber gaps.

With optimized wide-area pleat layout, captured pollutants spread evenly across the whole filter medium surface instead of accumulating only on the outer layer. This design slows the rising speed of inlet-outlet differential pressure, maximizes dirt holding capacity and extends the usable operating cycle of each filter. When the pressure difference between filter inlet and outlet reaches the preset threshold value, the filter medium becomes saturated with trapped contaminants, and field operators need to install new High Flow Filters.

High Flow Filters form the primary protective barrier for ultrafiltration membranes. Without this upstream prefiltration, raw water loaded with solid particles will directly impact UF membrane surfaces. Contaminant deposits block membrane pores and flow channels, accelerate fouling, increase chemical cleaning frequency, and may even cause irreversible permanent damage to ultrafiltration membranes. When installed in series with PFTM11UEPFA high flow filter cartridge for multi-stage combined filtration, the long-term running stability of the ultrafiltration system can be greatly enhanced. It should be noted that High Flow Filters can only remove solid particulate impurities and cannot filter dissolved ions, so they only serve as mechanical prefiltration before ultrafiltration membranes.

Quality Control

Every batch of High Flow Filters undergoes full-process production inspection and finished-product performance testing before shipment. Incoming raw material inspection is carried out for polypropylene filter media, support cores and end caps to guarantee batch-to-batch consistency. During manufacturing, sampling inspections cover pleating uniformity, thermal bonding strength and sealing performance of end caps.

Finished product tests include bubble point integrity test, cyclic pressure impulse test and water flow pressure drop detection. Defective filters with medium cracks, poor sealing or loose structures will be fully screened out. The glue-free thermal bonding craft removes the risk of adhesive leaching that may contaminate process water. The all-PP material design also avoids metal shedding risk in filtration, making it suitable for sanitary water treatment scenarios.

Products comply with strict industrial filtration quality management standards. Each filter is individually packaged to avoid dust and particle contamination during storage and transportation. Complete technical datasheets are supplied for engineering design, BOM creation and quotation reference. After installation and before system startup, on-site inspection should be performed to confirm filter housing interface matching and sealing integrity.

Application Fields

High Flow Filters are widely used as pretreatment filters for ultrafiltration water treatment systems, and they also apply to a wide range of other industrial liquid filtration scenarios.

  1. Industrial ultrafiltration system pretreatment: Capture sediment, iron oxide scale and suspended particles, protect UF membrane elements, reduce membrane chemical cleaning frequency. Suitable for raw water purification and reclaimed water reuse projects.

  2. Power plant water treatment: Pre-filtration for boiler makeup water and condensate water, removing pipeline rust and suspended particulate pollutants.

  3. Food and beverage industry: Raw water pretreatment for drinking water and beverage production to remove granular impurities.

  4. Chemical industry: Process water filtration and circulating cooling water pretreatment for chemical production lines.

  5. Municipal water supply and reclaimed water reuse: Large-flow raw water prefiltration for municipal water plants and wastewater recycling projects.

  6. Pharmaceutical and cosmetic purified water preparation: Sanitary grade prefiltration for water production equipment.

System designers can configure multi-stage gradient filtration according to raw water turbidity and pollutant composition of each individual project to achieve better overall filtration efficiency.

FAQ

Q1: What is the main function of High Flow Filters in ultrafiltration equipment?

A: They serve as the upstream pretreatment protective filters for ultrafiltration systems. They intercept suspended solids, silt and granular contaminants inside raw water, reduce pollutant load on UF membranes, slow membrane fouling, lower chemical cleaning frequency and extend the service life of ultrafiltration membrane elements.

Q2: What factors influence the service life of High Flow Filters?

A: There is no fixed time-based service life. Service cycle depends on raw water turbidity, contaminant concentration and real operating flow rate. It is recommended to replace the filters when inlet-outlet differential pressure reaches 0.35 MPa.

Q3: Can I clean and reuse clogged High Flow Filters?

A: They are disposable pleated filters. Once fiber gaps are saturated with trapped contaminants, backwashing cannot fully restore original filtration performance. Reuse after cleaning brings particle leakage risks, direct replacement is recommended.

Q4: What filter housings match High Flow Filters?

A: They fit 40-inch or 60-inch high flow filter housings with bayonet locking interface. Before ordering, verify housing interface dimensions, internal cavity space and pressure bearing rating to avoid installation mismatch.

Q5: Are High Flow Filters suitable for high temperature working conditions?

A: The polypropylene material has a maximum operating temperature of 65℃. It is not recommended for continuous operation above this temperature. Contact our technical team for high-temperature working condition assessment.

Q6: How many High Flow Filters do I need for my ultrafiltration system?

A: The required quantity is calculated based on total system flow rate, single-filter rated flow and raw water quality parameters. Calculate according to the technical datasheet and reserve reasonable surplus to cope with raw water quality fluctuations.
