2. Working Principle

The core operation mechanism of ultrafiltration integrated equipment is pressure-driven cross-flow physical sieving separation. After raw water is boosted by the feed pump inside the integrated frame to the stable operating pressure of 1.0–4.0 bar, the fluid flows tangentially along the surface or inner cavity of the built-in membrane elements at a fixed flow rate.

Water molecules and dissolved inorganic small molecular salts pass through the micropores of the membrane selective layer smoothly to form qualified permeate clean water, which is collected and delivered to the clean water tank through the water production pipeline. Pollutant particles, colloidal flocs, microbial colonies and organic macromolecules larger than the membrane molecular weight cutoff are trapped on the membrane surface. The high-speed tangential cross-flow continuously scours the membrane surface, slows down the accumulation speed of dirt, and most intercepted pollutants are discharged out of the equipment along with the concentrated water flow.

Two sets of automatic maintenance logic are solidified in the control program of ultrafiltration integrated equipment to ensure long-term stable operation. The first is regular automatic backwashing, which uses the clean water produced by the equipment to reversely penetrate the membrane layer to peel off loose surface dirt, and runs automatically in daily operation without manual intervention. The second is periodic CIP chemical cleaning: acidic medicament removes inorganic scale precipitation, and alkaline medicament decomposes organic biofilm when backwashing cannot recover the design water flux.
