2. Working Principle

The basic operating logic of ultrafiltration machine relies on pressure-driven cross-flow physical sieving separation. After raw water is boosted by the feed pump to the stable working pressure of 1.0 bar ~ 4.0 bar, the fluid flows tangentially at a fixed speed along the surface or inner cavity of the membrane components inside the ultrafiltration machine.

Water molecules and small molecular dissolved inorganic salts pass through the micropores of the membrane separation layer smoothly to form clean permeate water, which is collected and transported to the clean water tank through the water production pipeline. Pollutant particles, colloidal flocs, microbial colonies and organic macromolecules larger than the membrane molecular weight cutoff are trapped on the membrane surface. The high-speed tangential flow continuously scours the membrane surface, slows down the deposition speed of dirt, and most intercepted pollutants are discharged out of the machine along with concentrated water flow.

Two sets of maintenance mechanisms are embedded in the control program of ultrafiltration machine to guarantee long-term stable running. The first one is automatic periodic backwashing, which uses the clean water produced by the machine to penetrate the membrane reversely and peel off loose dirt on the membrane surface, running automatically in daily operation without manual intervention. The second one is regular CIP chemical cleaning; acid solution is used to remove inorganic scale deposits, and alkaline solution is applied to decompose organic biofilm when backwashing cannot recover rated water flux.
