Ultrafiltration system

1. Product Introduction of Ultrafiltration System

An ultrafiltration system is not a single membrane component, but a whole set of process system consisting of pretreatment matching section, ultrafiltration main reaction section, backwash chemical cleaning section and central automatic control section. The core ultrafiltration membrane uses micropore physical interception to remove suspended solids, colloids, microorganisms and macromolecular organics in water, and is widely used as the core pretreatment system of reverse osmosis ultrapure water production lines in various industries.

LEFILIER’s serialized ultrafiltration systems realize full working condition coverage through differentiated product design displayed on the official website. For wastewater concentration, effective material recovery and high organic sewage treatment projects, users can deploy Concentrated Ultrafiltration Membrane Equipment as the main body of the ultrafiltration system; the internal runner structure of the membrane element is optimized to improve anti-fouling performance and adapt to long-term operation under high pollutant accumulation. For pharmaceutical injection water, electronic ultrapure water and high-grade beverage production water with strict outlet water cleanliness standards, users can build a graded ultrafiltration system with Dual Stage Ultrafiltration Equipment. The primary stage removes most large particle impurities, and the secondary stage completes deep fine filtration, effectively reducing the pollution pressure of subsequent reverse osmosis membranes. For laboratory water supply, small workshop production water and mobile temporary water supply devices with low water consumption, users can adopt compact integrated Compact Small Scale Ultrafiltration Membrane Equipment, which is convenient for transportation and rapid on-site installation. For new construction and upgrading of overall water stations in large factories, users can directly select fully assembled and debugged Complete Ultrafiltration Equipment to realize one-stop delivery and greatly shorten the project construction cycle.

The frame of all ultrafiltration systems adopts 304 stainless steel as standard material, modified PVDF is the mainstream membrane material with excellent acid-base resistance and oxidation resistance. The built-in PLC control system supports timing + pressure difference dual-trigger automatic backwashing to automatically flush pollutants attached to the membrane surface; the reserved CIP cleaning interface can regularly remove inorganic scale and organic biofilm to restore the initial water production flux of membrane elements. In the actual water treatment process layout, the ultrafiltration system is mostly arranged at the front end of the RO reverse osmosis system, stably controlling the SDI value of inlet water below 3 to avoid frequent fouling and blockage of reverse osmosis membrane elements.

2. Working Principle of Ultrafiltration System

The core working principle of the ultrafiltration system is pressure-driven cross-flow physical sieving separation. After the raw water passes through the front-end pretreatment device and is boosted by the feed pump to a stable operating pressure of 1.0 bar ~ 4.0 bar, the fluid flows tangentially along the outer surface of the hollow fiber membrane filament or the surface of the roll membrane sheet at a fixed flow velocity.

Under the pressure difference on both sides of the membrane wall, water molecules and dissolved small-molecule inorganic ions pass through the tiny membrane pores to form qualified permeate clean water, which is collected and delivered to the clean water tank through the produced water pipeline. Pollutants whose particle size or molecular weight is larger than the membrane molecular weight cutoff (MWCO) are intercepted on the membrane outer surface. The high-speed cross-flow water continuously scours the membrane surface, and most intercepted dirt is discharged out of the system along with the concentrated water flow, slowing down the accumulation speed of pollutants and preventing the filter cake layer from blocking the membrane pores.

Two independent maintenance logic is preset in the control program of each ultrafiltration system. The first is automatic backwashing: the produced clean water reversely penetrates the membrane pores from the water production side to wash away loose dirt on the membrane surface, and the whole process runs automatically without manual intervention in daily operation. The second is periodic CIP chemical cleaning: alkaline cleaning liquid decomposes organic biological pollutants, and acidic cleaning liquid removes inorganic scale when the overall water production flux of the system decays obviously. For the concentrated ultrafiltration system facing severe pollution working conditions, the system will be equipped with an enhanced circulating cleaning program during production to prolong the service life of membrane components.

4. Product Quality & Manufacturing Standards of Ultrafiltration System

All ultrafiltration systems produced by LEFILIER implement full-process closed-loop quality management from raw material inspection, membrane element production, mechanical component processing to finished system assembly and factory delivery test. Each batch of ultrafiltration membrane elements must pass 100% bubble point integrity test to screen out defective products such as fiber fracture and membrane leakage, ensuring stable pollutant interception performance of each membrane module. Stainless steel frame welding adopts precision argon arc welding technology, and all water-wetted accessories are harmless anti-corrosion materials to avoid secondary pollution to purified water quality.

Before delivery of each set of finished ultrafiltration system, FAT factory acceptance test must be completed by simulating actual water inflow working conditions to verify water yield stability, pressure difference change law, valve action sensitivity and automatic program execution logic, and goods can be delivered with complete quality inspection reports only after all test items are qualified.

Our ultrafiltration systems have obtained ISO9001 quality system certification, CE EU safety certification and NSF61 drinking water material safety certification. Under standardized operation and regular maintenance, the service life of PVDF hollow fiber membrane is 5–8 years, and tubular membrane can reach 6–8 years. We provide long-term global supply of original spare parts and free remote technical guidance for all customers purchasing our ultrafiltration systems.

FAQ

Q1: What components does a complete ultrafiltration system consist of?

A: It includes pretreatment filter device, ultrafiltration main membrane module, feed pump, backwash pipeline, chemical dosing cleaning system, pressure gauge, flow meter and PLC automatic control cabinet.

Q2: Can the ultrafiltration system remove salt ions and reduce the TDS value of water?

A: Ultrafiltration only intercepts macromolecular substances, colloids and microorganisms, salt ions can freely pass through the membrane layer. If desalination is required, the ultrafiltration system must be used as pretreatment matched with reverse osmosis equipment.

Q3: How long is the service life of the PVDF membrane inside the ultrafiltration system?

A: Under normal automatic backwashing and regular chemical cleaning maintenance, the service life of conventional PVDF hollow fiber ultrafiltration membrane is 5 to 8 years.

Q4: What problems will occur if the ultrafiltration system runs without backwashing for a long time?

A: Pollutants will continuously deposit on the membrane surface to form a dense filter cake layer, resulting in rapid attenuation of the system water output flux, and long-term irreversible pollution will lead to permanent scrapping of membrane elements.

Q5: Is the control logic of the dual-stage ultrafiltration system different from that of the ordinary single-stage ultrafiltration system?

A: Yes. The primary membrane of the dual-stage system bears heavy pollution load with a shorter backwash cycle; the secondary fine filter membrane has low pollution load with a longer maintenance cycle, and the two groups of membranes operate with independent control programs.

Q6: What pretreatment devices need to be configured at the water inlet of the ultrafiltration system?

A: It is necessary to install multi-media filter + 5μm security filter at the front end to intercept large particle impurities such as silt and rust slag, preventing hard particles from scratching the membrane surface and causing membrane filament breakage damage.
