2. Working Principle

The core working mechanism of ultrafiltration membrane equipment belongs to pressure-driven cross-flow physical sieving separation. After the raw water is pressurized by the feed pump to the stable working pressure of 1.0 bar ~ 4.0 bar, the fluid flows tangentially along the surface or inner wall of the built-in ultrafiltration membrane elements at a certain flow rate.

Water molecules and dissolved small molecular inorganic salts pass through the tiny selective micropores of the membrane layer under pressure to form qualified clean permeate water, which is collected and transported to the clean water storage tank through the water production pipeline. Pollutants such as suspended particles, colloidal flocs, bacterial colonies and organic macromolecules larger than the membrane molecular weight cutoff are physically trapped on the membrane surface. The high-speed cross-flow scouring of raw water continuously takes away most intercepted pollutants with concentrated water, slowing down the deposition speed of dirt on the membrane surface and maintaining stable water production flux for a long time.

Two sets of maintenance mechanisms are embedded in the control program of ultrafiltration membrane equipment to guarantee long-term stable operation. The first one is automatic periodic backwashing, which uses the clean water produced by the equipment to reversely permeate the membrane layer and peel off loose surface dirt, running automatically in daily operation without manual intervention. The second one is regular CIP chemical cleaning: acid detergent removes inorganic scale precipitation, alkaline detergent decomposes organic pollutants and biological film when backwashing cannot restore the rated water yield of the equipment. Q2: Can ultrafiltration membrane equipment remove dissolved salt substances and reduce the TDS value of water?
