Product Introduction
The high flow filter for boiler feed water is a heavy-duty industrial water filter designed specifically for continuous purification of boiler makeup water and condensate return water. It adopts large-diameter pleated high flow filter cartridge as the core filtration medium, and is usually arranged downstream of a self-cleaning filter to form a graded protection system. The self-cleaning filter handles coarse debris and large rust chunks, while the high flow filter carries out precision polishing filtration. This staged design avoids premature clogging of expensive pleated cartridges and stabilizes the whole boiler feed water treatment loop. Boiler feed water contains iron oxides, silica particles, broken resin beads, sediment and colloidal contaminants. If these impurities are carried into the boiler, they will form scale on heating surfaces, induce pitting corrosion, reduce thermal efficiency and even cause boiler tube rupture under high temperature and pressure. Our high flow filter cartridge uses radial pleated gradient media, which delivers huge effective filtration area, low pressure drop and high dirt holding capacity. Compared with traditional small-diameter filter cartridges, it requires fewer elements to achieve the same flow rate, which shrinks housing size, reduces sealing points, cuts maintenance time and lowers the total operation cost. It is widely accepted in thermal power plants, cogeneration stations, refineries, chemical factories and food factory heating systems for boiler feed water pre-filtration and condensate polishing.
Working Principle
The filtration process follows an outside-in radial flow pattern. Raw boiler feed water enters the stainless steel filter housing and distributes evenly around the outer surface of each high flow filter cartridge. The multi-layer gradient pleated media traps coarse particles on the outer pleats, while finer contaminants are captured inside the dense filter layers. The purified water flows inward through the inner support core and converges into the central outlet pipeline.
The complete boiler feed water filtration train works in two stages. The upstream self-cleaning filter removes large rust, gravel and pipeline scale automatically, without manual cartridge replacement. It protects the downstream high flow filter cartridge from mechanical damage and rapid blinding. The high flow filter then intercepts fine particles and colloids that pass through the self-cleaning filter.
As contaminants accumulate on the filter media, the differential pressure between inlet and outlet gradually rises. When the pressure difference reaches the preset threshold, the operator replaces the high flow filter cartridges. The differential pressure gauge mounted on the housing provides real-time monitoring, so maintenance can be scheduled predictably instead of emergency shutdown.
The filter housing is designed for continuous 24-hour operation, matching the non-stop running requirement of boiler systems. The internal flow channel is optimized to avoid dead zones and uneven flow distribution, which ensures every cartridge works at full capacity and extends service life.

Buying & Selection Guide
When selecting a high flow filter for boiler feed water, buyers need to confirm the design flow rate, working pressure, water temperature, inlet water turbidity, required filtration accuracy and pipeline connection standard.
If the feed water contains a large amount of pipeline rust and sediment, we strongly recommend installing a self-cleaning filter on the upstream side as the first stage. It intercepts large impurities and greatly extends the service life of high flow filter cartridge.
For high-temperature condensate return water, glass fiber high flow cartridges are preferred. For normal-temperature boiler makeup water, polypropylene media is cost-effective.
For power plants with large flow demand, multi-cartridge housing can be customized; for small heating boilers, compact single-cartridge or few-cartridge models are available. We also provide material certificates and pressure vessel test reports for power plant bidding projects.
FAQ
Q1: Why use high flow filter cartridge instead of traditional string wound cartridges for boiler feed water?
A: High flow filter cartridge has far larger filtration area, so fewer cartridges are required for the same flow rate. It reduces housing size, sealing points and replacement labor, which is more suitable for large boiler feed water systems.
Q2: What damage will unfiltered boiler feed water cause?
A: Suspended solids and iron oxide will deposit on boiler inner walls, forming scale, reducing heat transfer efficiency, raising fuel consumption, and even leading to overheating and boiler tube failure.
Q3: How does the self-cleaning filter cooperate with this high flow filter?
A: The self-cleaning filter works as coarse filtration, automatically backwashing to remove large rust and debris. The downstream high flow filter performs fine polishing. This two-stage combination optimizes the whole filtration chain.
Q4: Can this filter run continuously 24 hours for boiler systems?
A: Yes. The housing is pressure vessel certified for continuous operation. You only need to replace cartridges when differential pressure rises to the set value, and the replacement process is fast.
Q5: What filtration accuracy is usually selected for boiler feed water?
A: 5μm is the most common choice for boiler makeup water pre-filtration. 1μm or 3μm is used for condensate polishing where ultra-low solid content is required.
